A car crash in Oakland has left a woman dead and a man with critical injuries. The accident occurred early Saturday morning in the southbound lanes of I-880 near the 66th Avenue exit.
According to reports, the collision occurred when a Chevrolet Venture minivan pulled over along the side of the road after hitting a guardrail. A passenger left the vehicle to inspect the damage. Moments later, the stopped vehicle was struck by an oncoming Honda Civic and propelled into the passenger standing outside of it.
The Chevrolet passenger was killed instantly and the person operating the Honda Civic was taken to a regional trauma center with life-threatening injuries. According to police, the driver of the Chevrolet was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
The Southbound lanes of I-880 were closed for hours as police investigated the scene.
